This installment of the SHR Guestmix series is brought to you from just outside of Fort Worth, Texas by a good friend of mine DJ Michael Todd. You might be all like “where is the house music in Texas?” Well that is a pretty closed minded statement considering just a couple miles away there are artists like JT Donaldson, Demarkus Lewis and countless others bangin it out in Dallas. Like most of the DJ’s i’ve featured on the SHR Guestmix series, I met Michael thru the power of the internet. The greatest thing about doing a live show is there is still that nervous element to it still for me. Things go wrong all the time on this podcast, we chug thru it but it feels alot beter when things go smoothly. Tonight was such a night, always a good feeling to get a great mix that takes you on a journey. Tons of stuff from Giano at Tequila Trax. Some great stuff on Jazzy Eyewear’s So Sound Recordings and Umalu including a great tune off of the upcoming Les Loups debut artist album Club Coeur. Long before I started SHR and had my own hosting, I used to find what ever site I could to upload mixes to and get the music out to the people. One of the trusty sites I favored was www.djpassion.co.uk which let you host mixes for the affordable price of free, but also had a social aspect to the website. Late one night I found myself listening to one of Mr. Lee’s Dj mixes, and not being able to pump it as loud as I would have liked (too late to bump it) I vented my frustration in a comment and since then we have kept in touch. In addition to being one of the best dressed DJ’s to come along since Dimitri From Paris, Michael headed up The Deep House Sessions Radio Show on souljackdigital.com, has cemented residencies in clubs and lounges all over the Chicago area and adds his music stylings to reedits that he then delivers to the dancefloor.
This is going to be a great year for SHR and we are proud to have Michael Lee kick off the guestmix series for 2013. We have some great guests lined up, but this one is a deep, funky and soulful affair…I wouldn’t expect much less. Catch up with Michael in the links below and tell him the Perezident sent ya. I almost had a panic attack trying to figure out all the damn songs I wanted to play on this year end best of mix. I ended up with 84 different songs and was trying to wittle it down to 20 or so. Needless to day I had a nervous breakdown and just decided to go pick up Justin. Upon picking Justin up I saw him in the same state of disarray I was sorting thru all this great music and not wanting to leave any of it out. Well we only went for 3 and a half hours and we decided to just switch off every couple records and try and feed off eachother. Unfortunately I didn’t fit all 84 of my records on this mix and I know Justin had to omit a bunch as well. However I feel we portrayed a large cross section of our favorite tunes all across the board. Justin and I haven’t been in the studio together much lately so it was nice to try and piece this mix together. I hope you enjoy and I want to personally thank all of our awesome fans for the support over the last 4 years and we look forward to next year as we have some ideas on how to have some awesome themed nights and special mix nights. Enjoy this recap of the year, again it isn’t everything but it’s a nice flowing chunk of music to get down to. See you next year!
